Vance Perkins has announced his candidacy for Mayor of DeQuincy. Perkins is 66 and married to Ginny Humble Perkins who was from Starks. They have one son, Jonathan and wife Chanler of Sulphur. He is the son of the late Jerry and Bonnie Methvin Perkins of DeQuincy. His paternal grandparents are the late Kenneth and Etta Hoosier Perkins of Vidor, Texas and maternal grandparents are the late Horace (Buster) and Ella (Tish) McConathy Methvin of DeQuincy. He has three siblings, Derrick (DD) Perkins, Jason (Festus) Perkins, both of DeQuincy and the late Angie Perkins Burgess of Longville.
Perkins is a graduate of DeQuincy High School Class of 1977. He attended McNeese State University
He was employed by Boise Southern Security/Safety Department from 1978-1979 and Citgo Petroleum from 1980-2020 as Console Process Operator, Operations Turnaround Coordinator, Training Manual/Operating Procedures Writer.
He is a member of Hargrove Bible Baptist Church since 1973 serving as deacon since 1989 and Treasurer since 1996.
He is a member of Starks Historical Society since 2000 serving as Treasurer since 2015; Southwest Louisiana Genealogical Society; and DeQuincy Railroad Museum Board of Directors serving as President since 2020.
His hobbies include travel, camping, photography, cooking, historical research and writing.
He has lived in the DeQuincy area his entire life with the exception of five years in Starks. He had lived in Hargrove Settlement until 2017, when he moved within the corporate limits of DeQuincy.
Perkins is an Independent registered as No Party.
