ORDINANCE 1010
The City Council of the City of DeQuincy, State of Louisiana, met in regular session on the 10th day of August 2026, and adopted the following Ordinance as an amendment to Article II-Occupational License Tax, Sec 12-34 Business where licenses are based on flat fees of the Code of Ordinances.
WHEREAS, the City of DeQuincy desires to update and modernize its Code of Ordinances regarding the regulation of Canvassing, soliciting, or peddling within the City of DeQuincy.
Sec. 12-34. – Businesses where licenses are based on flat fees.
Be it resolved that Section 12-34 (c) (2) and (3) pertaining to the regulation of peddling and or canvassing for profit, be and is hereby repealed (thereby making peddling and canvassing for profit illegal)
Be it further resolved that Section 12-34 (c) (2) be revised to read as follows:
Religious organizations and non-profit organizations who are registered with and in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State are exempt from the prohibition of peddling or canvasing provided said exempt organization registers with the Clerk seven calendar days in advance of the commencing of peddling or canvassing activity. The non-profit registration with the Clerk shall include but not be limited to the Organization’s name, Employer Identification Number, proof of being registered and in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State, and any other information the Clerk deems reasonably necessary in the Clerk’s discretion.
All other sections, paragraphs, subsections, subparagraphs, clauses, phrases, and words of Article II, Sec 12-34 Business where licenses are based on flat fees, not specifically repealed or amended by this ordinance, are to remain the same.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with any of the provisions of this ordinance are
hereby repealed and replaced.
Said Ordinance having been introduced on the 13th day of July 2026, by notice of Public Hearing having been published on the 5th day of August 2026, said Public Hearing having been held 10th day of August 2026, title having been read and Ordinance considered, on motion by Scott Wylie, seconded by Jim Smith to adopt the Ordinance. A record vote was taken, and the following result was had:
