CPPJ announced reduction in two parishwide property tax levies

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury will implement a reduction in two parishwide property tax levies for the 2026 tax year. The adjustment includes a reduction of 0.3 mills for both the Parish Library tax and the Mosquito Control tax.

The reduction applies parishwide and is intended to align collections with current operational needs. While the millage decreases reduce the total tax levy, the Library and Mosquito Control programs will maintain full operational capability.

“These millage reductions reflect our ongoing review of current operations and long-term planning,” said Parish Administrator Dane Bolin. “Our departments have evaluated current funding levels, and we are confident that essential services will continue to operate effectively under the reduced millages.”

“Each year, we take a close look at our finances to make sure we’re using taxpayer dollars wisely,” said Police Jury President Brian Abshire. “This reduction is the result of that annual review process and reflects our commitment to being responsible stewards of public resources. We remain focused on providing the services residents depend on every day while reducing the tax burden whenever it can be done responsibly.”

The millages were approved unanimously by the Police Jury at the Thursday, July 2 Regular Meeting.
