Berna Dean Como, 90, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026. She was born to her late parents, Clinton and Ezola Como on Dec. 15, 1935 in DeQuincy. She worked as a teacher with Calcasieu Parish Schools beginning in 1959 until she retired in 1983. The love for her parents and sisters was unwavering and she cherished the memories of them growing up together always.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred Addison of DeQuincy; nieces and nephew-in-law, Gayle Pierfax of DeQuincy and Sidney Pierfax of Lake Charles, Gwendolyn Tanner of California; great-nieces, Cynthia “Chelli” Pierfax and Natasha “Nikki” Pierfax, both of DeQuincy; along with her great-great-nieces and nephew, Pharrell Pierfax, Najahe Taylor, and Abby Taylor.
Berna Dean was preceded in death by her parents; along with her sister, Myrtis Tanner.
A Celebration of Berna’s life will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy, on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m with Bro. Ronald Young officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 21, beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy.
