Le Chien Cookers DOG held; officers are told for 2026

Le Chien Cookers, a chapter of Louisiana Dutch Oven Society held their regular 4th Saturday cooking demonstration on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Sam Houston Jones State Park Riverside Pavillion.

A flag ceremony had been scheduled, but due to inclement weather it will be rescheduled for a later date.

There were 11 attendees with two visitors who braved the cold weather. Pots were cooked under the pavillion. At the gathering, a Minnesota couple, Erech and Krissy Gallatin, stopped in to visit the group. They shared information about the chapter in their home state.

Pots cooked included: sourdough bread, hot coffee, sweet potato casserole, black eyed peas with smoked sausage, chili, cherry cobbler, crawfish etoufee, peach cobbler and more. There were eight cooks, 12 pots and 11 served.

Officers were elected to serve for 2026. They are James Slagle, Commissioner; Vance Perkins, Asst. Commissioner; and Christina Guillory, Secretary-Treasurer.

Although cold and rainy, the group had good food and great fellowship.

The next cooking demo will be held again at the Sam Houston Jones State Park Riverside Pavillion on Saturday, Feb. 28. Set up is in the morning and pots served at noon.
