Rebecca Gearen Bass was born Jan. 21, 1942, and passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at the age of 83.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Burgess and wife Brandy of Longville, and Bridgett Burgess and boyfriend David Q. Williams of DeQuincy; great-grandchildren, Kadence Burgess and James Williams of DeQuincy; mother of her grandchildren, Carolyn Langley of DeQuincy; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Burgess Eaves of Merryville; numerous nieces and nephews; along with the Care Center of DeQuincy staff and residents.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bass; son, James Douglas Burgess and Randal Arsan Burgess; parents, Douglas Gearen Sr. and Susie Hodge Gearen; siblings, Leon Gearen, Douglas Gearen; Marue Gearen, Dorothy Royer, Pete Gearen, and Joy Fay Hardin; and daughter-in-law, Mary Spears Burgess.
The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Carlton Jackson Jr officiated. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
