L.Z. Trichel Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, at the age of 70. He was a good man in every sense of the word, steadfast, humble, and guided by faith throughout his life.
L.Z. had a deep love for the outdoors. He found his greatest joy in the quiet of the woods and on the water, whether hunting at dawn or fishing as the sun rose. These moments were more than hobbies to him; they were times of reflection, gratitude, and connection with God’s creation. He loved sharing these passions with family and friends, teaching patience, respect for nature, and appreciation for simple blessings.
A godly man, L.Z., lived his faith daily, not just in words but in actions. He led by example, showing kindness, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family. His strength was gentle, his wisdom steady, and his presence reassuring. Those who knew him knew they could count on him for guidance, for laughter, and for prayer.
Above all else, L.Z. cherished his family. He was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren and loved them fiercely. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the stories shared around campfires and kitchen tables, and the faith he instilled in those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jan Trichel; children, Falisha Lynn Deeb and husband Nick, Tim Shaffer, and Kimberly Wilson; grandchildren, Bailey, Hailey, Layrd, Jordan, and Hollie; great-grandchildren, Nova, Rose, Everly, JoJo, Namari, and Aaliyah; sisters, Linda Ramsey, Brenda Dance, Mary McCormack, and Glenda Martin; and brother, Ottis Trichel and wife Tracie; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.Z. Sr. and Mary Virginia Trichel.
Though he will be greatly missed, we find comfort in knowing he has gone home to be with the Lord he faithfully served. His life was a testament to love, faith, and a life well lived.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, at New Life Evangelism Center, 4810 University Pkwy, Natchitoches. Rev. Dennis Bjornberg will be officiating. Interment will follow at Pardee Cemetery in Campti.
