Viola “Vidie” Nelson was born May 26, 1934 and passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at the age of 91.
Vidie loved listening to music and going fishing. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for whoever she could. Her most famous meal was chicken and dumplings. Vidie loved her family more than anything and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Deborah “Debbie” Champagne and husband Chester, Randy Lykins and wife Inez, Lisa Horn and husband Tommy, Joni Whitehead and husband Casey, Bill Gearen and wife Lisa, Monica Bruno, Jim Stanley and wife Rebecca, and Alisha “LeeLee” Bushnell Nelson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hardy Nelson; mother, Sarah Perkins Stanley and husband Robert; siblings, Betty LeBlanc, Dinah Lykins, George Nelson, Velma Gearen, Harvey Stanley, and Dusty Stanley; and nephews, Kenny LeBlanc Jr. and Michael Lykins.
The family received friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Bro. Vance Perkins officiated. Interment followed at Perkins Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
