The monthly DeQuincy City Council meeting was called to order by Eddy Dahlquist on Monday, Dec. 8. The Nov. 10, 2025 regular meeting minutes were approved by the council.
Mayor Riley Smith mentioned that the Christmas parade and the Dickens in DeQuincy held Saturday, Dec. 6, was a complete success, with a record attendance. He thanked all who were involved in making this event possible. He also reminded everyone of the upcoming Parade of Homes on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Jerry McCaig was re-appointed to serve as a Commissioner of the Housing Authority for five years.
Public input on the agenda resulted in several citizens and property owners voicing their concerns on our historical downtown sites.
Vance Perkins asked for the council to reconsider demolitions of these downtown properties as there is (1) no collapse, (2) the historical significance, (3) can the city possibly help these property owners in any way, (4) can demolition be the last step and (5) can the city historical status be recertified.
Phillip and Kelly Menou are the property owners of the buildings at 103 and 105 E. 4th St. Each of them spoke about the process that has taken place since they purchased this property. They were given a 90 day extension to remove boards and secure the building.
