For the second year in a row, DeQuincy and Vinton played each other for the district championship and it certainly did not disappoint as both teams played their tales off all night and left everything out on the field. Unfortunately, the DeQuincy Tigers came out on the losing end of this near 100 year rivalry as Vinton won the game 21-17 and broke a seven year losing streak to the Tigers.
This was the first time since 2007 that the Lions won in DeQuincy and that just goes to show how tough of an environment our hometown crowd can be for any opposing team, especially in a rivalry game.
Despite the loss, the Tigers’ defense held Vinton running back Jaidon Briggs to his season low 102 yards on the night as he has averaged 185 yards a game before Friday night’s game so that’s a testament to the stingy and gritty DeQuincy defense.
