Gerald Hyatt

Gerald Hyatt was born Feb. 15, 1940 and passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2025 at the age of 85.

Gerald was a man known for his honesty, kindness and cautious wisdom. He lived his life with a gentle heart, always showing love and care to those around him. In his quieter moments, he found great joy in fishing at the lake, where he could relax and appreciate the simple beauty of nature. Gerald was an avid animal lover who cared about each of his babies, Daisy, Bella, Pepe and Hattie. He dearly loved his neighbors and daily visits, but most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Carole Hyatt Fontenot and husband Kevin Fontenot, Trina Hyatt and Jason Martin; grandchildren, Gerad Hyatt and fiancé Kayla Botty, Colt Fontenot and wife Olivia and Alex Fontenot and fiancé Jace Dalton; great-grandchildren, Waylon Hyatt, Wrenley Hyatt, Silas Fontenot, Edward Bourque and Adalynn Fontenot; siblings Betty Smith, Lilly Mae Hyatt and Joyce Hyatt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Hyatt; parents, Harmon and Thelma Hyatt; sister Gloria Hyatt; and brother in-law, Donald Smith.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy and the funeral service began at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at The First United Pentecostal Church, 230 Smith St., in DeQuincy. Rev. Jimmy Clark, Rev. Carlton Jackson Jr., and Rev. Mike Streams officiated. Interment followed at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
