Knights outlast Tigers in jamboree

By Jake McCoy

The DeQuincy Tigers played the South Beauregard Golden Knights last Thursday in the Sam Houston Jamboree. The energy was high on both sides but the Knights would score early and often. Their up tempo no huddle offense wore the down the Tigers throughout the game as subbing players in and out became very difficult at times due to the fast pace of the Knights’ offense, missed opportunities and turnovers also made a big difference in the game.

The Tigers committed two turnovers on a muffed punt and a pick six. However the Tigers would score twice as Ty LaVergne returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown early in the game to tie things up 6-6.

The Tigers wouldn’t score again until the second half when LaVergne busted through a hole and found open field for a 47 yard touchdown run. Brendan Skinner added the extra point but the Tigers were still far behind on the scoreboard. Eventually falling to their rivals by a final score of 39-13.
