On Tuesday, July 29, at approximately 7:23 p.m., officers with the DeQuincy Police Dept. responded to a report of a possible home invasion in a residential area of DeQuincy.
Upon arrival, officers apprehended a suspect who appeared to be actively attempting to break into a residence. No shots were fired. While in the process of putting the suspect in handcuffs, the suspect violently resisted by kicking and punching the officer. A second officer walked up at the time and deployed his taser to get control of the situation. The officers, together, were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and placed him into a unit to be transported to the police department.
While in a holding room at the Police Dept. waiting to be booked, the suspect began jumping up and down, then fell to the floor. Shortly after, officers walked into the back door and saw the suspect on the floor not moving. Officers acted swiftly, with one calling for Acadian and the other performing CPR.
Despite the immediate response, the suspect was later pronounced dead at Cal-Cam hospital.
The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No officers were injured during the response.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
