The Ward 6 Fire Protection District #1 held their 1st annual Kids Fire Safety Camp July 28 through Aug, 1. There were more than 30 youth that participated and completed the week-long event.
Campers learned very important skills about fire safety, including the importance of smoke detectors, how to safely exit their home if a fire occurs, when and how to use 911, how to use fire extinguishers, and several skills firefighters use on each emergency scene.
Each camper that completed the camp received a Certificate of Completion from the fire department. Special awards were given to the campers that showed extraordinary success in several different categories.

The camp was made successful by the many volunteers that gave their time to ensure the youth learned these important life safety skills. Recognition of these volunteers that include firefighters from Ward 6 Fire, Houston River Fire, and DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department. Calcasieu 911 Dispatch, Acadian Ambulance, AirMed, and Beauregard FD #1 provided equipment and /or personnel that was available for each attendee to tour.
Volunteers from the community that provided monetary donations The McDaniel Family. The Amrine Family, The Arwood Family, The Mullens Family, The Kennon Family, Loy Bader, Wanda Parker, Teri Parker, Richard Ratcliff, Eric Vige’, James Blanchette, and Diana Parker.
Bayou Vinyl provided screen printed t-shrts for each attendee, Backyard Bouncers helped with an inflatable water slide, and King Liam’s Ice Cream Truck.
The safety camp was a huge success and we look forward to this being an annual event.
