Lucille Ione Musgrove, 78, of DeQuincy, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025.
She was born to her late parents, Ben and Ione Cooley Musgrove on Oct. 26, 1946 in DeQuincy. Lucille was the first one in her family to be born in a hospital in DeQuincy, delivered by Dr. Bishop. In her early years, she attended Demmons School of Beauty where she acquired her beauty license in 1973. Lucille maintained her license up until the current date and always would say “if all else fails, she may need it one day”.
She was employed at Nichols for many years, where she knew nearly everyone in town, and watched children grow into adults. She started in June of 1977 and retired in December of 2016. Customers still miss seeing her there, as she was the face of Nichols for 38 1/2 years. Lucille loved to play the piano and she had the gift of playing by ear.
She was a 1964 graduate of Ragley High School and was very close to her classmates, and they loved each other like family. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her only daughter who she loved immensely. Lucille was made from the “good stuff”.
She was strong and resilient all her life, never giving up, and persevering through it all. Lucille truly lived the motto “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and always put her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was always self-sacrificing and always put Gloria first. Lucille had lifelong childhood friends, always concerned for them with love that never wavered.
She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Gloria Doyle and husband Randy of DeQuincy; three nephews, Michael Musgrove and wife Meredith, Shelton Musgrove and wife Sherri, and Jeffery Musgrove and wife Rhonda; two nieces, Angela Deal and husband Mike, and Jeniffer Overton and husband Karl; along with numerous cousins.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Alton Musgrove and Shelby Musgrove.
A Celebration of Lucille’s life was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 12 p.m., with Bro. Brad Johnson officiating. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Alston Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Joudeh and his staff at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital and Allegiance Home Health for their excellent care they provided for Lucille.
Services entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
