Nathan Marcantel, Jr.

Nathan Allen Marcantel Jr., 90, of DeQuincy, entered his Heavenly home on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at his residence. He was born to his late parents, Nathan Sr. and Mary Cooley Marcantel on Dec. 11, 1933 in DeQuincy. He graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1952 and was a Marine Veteran of the Korean War. Returning home, he attended Sowela Technical School studying welding, later working in the shipbuilding industry. Most of his career was spent in law enforcement. He worked for the Louisiana State Police as a trooper, and upon retirement from the State Police in 1975, he worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and then the DeQuincy Police Department. He was a proud member of Pine Grove Baptist Church for many years.

In his retirement, he owned several DeQuincy businesses and owned various rental properties in town.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dannie Joyce Marcantel; two sons, Dan Marcantel (Kathy) of DeQuincy and Clay Marcantel (Janet) of Pineville; one grandson, Mason A. Marcantel (Courtney) of DeQuincy; and one granddaughter, Hannah Marcantel of DeQuincy; three great grandchildren, Preslei, Manning, and Parker Belle Marcantel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents; along with his three sisters, Hazel Dailey, Gladys Cureton, and Maxine Marcantel.

A Celebration of Nathan’s life was held at Pine Grove Baptist Church in DeQuincy on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m., Bro. Jordan Doyle and Bro. Scott Streams officiated. Visitation was at the church on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St, DeQuincy.
