Kathleen “Kate” Ann Ortego Thomas, 79, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2024. She was born in Ville Platte.
She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She graduated from LaGrange Senior High School (Class of 1962) and attended McNeese State University. She was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
She is survived by her son, Warren Thomas (Jane) of Lake Charles; daughter, Gwendolyn Thomas Dowden (Dean) of Ragley; siblings Larry Ortego of St. Francisville, Orin Ortego of Lake Charles, and Phyllis Ortego White of Lake Charles. She also leaves the father of her children, Joseph Stanley Thomas of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her son, Darrin Paul Thomas; parents, Louis Joseph Ortego and Emma Fontenot Ortego.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Michael Beverung served as celebrant. Interment services followed at Consolata Cemetery.
