ORDINANCE NO. 1005
The City Council of the City of DeQuincy, State of Louisiana, met in regular session on the 9th day of March, 2026, and adopted the following Ordinance as an amendment to the General Zoning Ordinance.
WHEREAS, the City of DeQuincy desires to update and modernize its Code of Ordinances regarding the zoning of commercial district.
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council that Section 2 of Appendix A: General Zoning Ordinance are hereby amended as follows:
Section 2 shall remain in effect as written, with the following addition:
Commercial district of the City [Town] of DeQuincy, Louisiana: That the commercial district of the City [Town] of DeQuincy, Louisiana, shall be the lands and properties facing, adjoining and contiguous to the following streets of the said City [Town] of DeQuincy:
Fourth Street (which street follows the route of State Highway 12), from west City [Town] limits to east City [Town] limits of the City [Town] of DeQuincy, Louisiana.
Fourth Street (which street follows the route of State Highway 12), including its intersection with Sunshine Lane on the east to the west City [Town] limits of the City [Town] of DeQuincy Louisiana.
College Street, from and including its intersection with Third Street on the north to Fourth Street on the south.
Center Street, from and including its intersection with Hall Street on the west to and including its intersection with Lake Charles Avenue on the east.
Harrison Street, from and including its intersection with Division Street on the west, to and including its intersection with Front Street on the east.
Pine Street, from and including its intersection with Lake Charles Avenue on the north, to and including its intersection with Velmer Street on the south.
Lake Charles Avenue, from and including its intersection with Fourth Street on the west, to and including its intersection with Fourth Street on the east.
Grand Avenue (which street follows route of State Highway 27) from and including its intersection with Fourth Street on the north, to and including its intersection with Booker Street on the south.
Page Street (which street follows the route of State Highway 27) from and including its intersection with Gill Street on the south, to City [Town] limits on the north.
Main Street, from and including its intersection with Gill Street on the south, to and including its intersection with Edgewood Street on the north.
Fourth Street (which follows the route of State Highway 12), from its intersection with Overton Street to the west city limits of the City [Town] of DeQuincy as to property facing, adjoining and contiguous to the north side of Fourth Street to a depth of 300 feet north of the north right-of-way line of Fourth Street, with the stipulation that the owner of any property within this 300 foot commercial district actually used for commercial purposes shall, prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy for that property, erect and maintain in good condition a six (6) foot privacy fence at least ten (10) feet from the east, west and north lines of the property that is being used for commercial purposes unless one or more of the east, west or north lines are adjacent to a public road, in which case the owner of the commercial property is not required to erect a privacy fence on the side that adjoins a public road. The privacy fence should be of such construction as to substantially limit the impact of commercial use upon the neighboring property and substantially restrict visibility into the commercial property.
No portable building shall be allowed in the commercial district unless used for storage and has no public access. No mobile homes will be allowed in the commercial district.
All other sections, paragraphs, subsections, subparagraphs, clauses, phrases and words of Appendix A, not specifically amended by this ordinance, are to remain the same.
Be it further ordained that all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with this Ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed.
Said Ordinance having been introduced on the 9th day of February 2026, by notice of Public Hearing having been published on the 4th day of March 2026 said Public Hearing having been held on 9th day of March 2026, title having been read and Ordinance considered, on motion by Bobby Dahlquist seconded by Margaret Brown to adopt the Ordinance. A record vote was taken, and the following result was had:
