As an office manager and graphic artist at the DeQuincy News, I had the honor of kicking off Career Week at Bible Baptist Academy!
I have a multifaceted role at The DeQuincy News. Sometimes I’m a reporter, or a photographer. Sharing the DeQuincy News, and their role in the community with the students was such a pleasure
Focusing on the five Ws is the perfect way to demystify journalism for kids. By showing them how to gather facts and interview peers like Keagan, you’re teaching them critical thinking and the importance of fact-checking—skills that are more relevant now than ever.
Celebrating the paper’s 103rd anniversary with an ice cream party was a sweet touch! It’s a great reminder that local newspapers aren’t just about information; they are pillars of the community that help raise the next generation of informed citizens.
Would you like some ideas for follow-up activities the students could do to practice their reporting skills, or perhaps a template for a classroom “mini-newspaper?” Give me a call at The DeQuincy News at 337-786-8004 and I’ll be happy to share some ideas with you.
Also, encourage your children to turn in news and photos to us, whether it is an accomplishment, or an experience … like a trip they’ve taken or an extra-ordinary pet.
