Roy “Radar” “Ro” Pharis, Jr. was born Dec. 18, 1938, and passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, at the age of 87.
Roy lived a life defined by hard work, service, and a deep love for the outdoors and his family. He was an active man who found joy in fishing, hunting, and farming, and he was happiest when working with his hands. For 11 years, Roy also enjoyed coaching Dixie Youth Baseball. He proudly served as an aviation machinist in the United States Marine Corps, where his skill, dedication, and sense of duty reflected his strong character. Above all else, Roy loved his family and took great pride in being there for them. He will be remembered for his work ethic, loyalty, and the quiet strength he shared with everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Smith Pharis; children, Debbie Johnson and husband Mike, Kenny Pharis and wife Elizabeth, Mark Pharis and wife Brandy, and Milton Trent Pharis and wife Sandy; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; lifelong friend, Jerry Hosey and wife Martha; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Pharis Sr.; mother, Bea Bankens; stepfather, Bennie Bankens; siblings, John Pharis and George Pharis; aunt, Esther Pharis; and uncle, Harry Pharis.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, with the funeral service being held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, at Temple Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Pastor Dwayne Hyatt will be officiating. Interment to follow at Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
