DeQuincy High School has named Amy Spence as its 2025-2026 Support Person of the Year. Spence is a paraprofessional at DeQuincy High, working with students who have severe disabilities.
A 2003 graduate of DeQuincy High, she has worked as a paraprofessional for over ten years, helping middle and high school students with behavioral disorders and intellectual and physical disabilities to learn and achieve.
When asked what she enjoys about her job, Spence responded, “I enjoy working with students and building healthy educational relationships with them, to help them learn and grow to the best of their ability.”
Before working at DHS, she has worked at Judice Middle, W.W. Lewis Middle, DeQuincy Middle, and Deweyville High.
In addition to her duties at DHS, she is the owner of Blooms by Ami and has been a past president and vice president of the Louisiana State Florists Association.
Spence makes her home in DeQuincy, where she raises her two children, attends First United Pentecostal Church, and sings in the church choir.
