Laverne Says was born Aug. 1, 1936, and passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at the age of 89.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Ford, John Says and wife Mary, Rachel Martha Sherman and husband Woody, Shanell Says Rainwater, Timothy Wayne Says, David Earl Says, and Clifton Allen Says Jr. and wife Erin; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda Gail Ragel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Allen Says Sr.; grandchildren, Jessica Ford, Garrett Collins, and Johnathan Says; great-granddaughters, Brittany “Jade” Singleton and Katelin Says; father, William “Bill” Sandifer; mother, Rachel Hursey; stepfather, Willis Clayborne Hursey; brothers, Willis Ray Hursey and Curtis Sandifer; sister, Emma Smith; and son-in-law, Turley Ford.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, with the funeral service being held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, at First Pentecostal Church in Starks. Pastor Karl Smith officiated. Interment followed at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
