Betty J. Swinney Parker, a native of Vinton, died on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at the age of 94.
She worked for the East Baton Rouge School System and later in the Calcasieu Parish School System. She retired after 20 years of service. She was active in the United Methodist faith and the Vinton Senior Center.
Survivors include her children, Linda Harvey (Randy) of Denver, Colo., Gary Parker (Nicole) of City of Central, Louisiana and Pamela Lago of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Parker; her eldest daughter, Mary Elizabeth Garrett; her parents, Marion Mott “Bill” Swinney and Bessie McClendon Swinney; her son-in-law, Jim Lago; and her siblings, four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 8, in Vinton Methodist Church. The Rev. Rob Tibbitts officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Mausoleum in Sulphur under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Vinton Methodist Church, 1100 Horridge St., Vinton LA 70668.
