Benny Jackson was born on Mar. 9, 1949, in the small town of Deport, Texas, to Virgil and Ruth Jackson.
The youngest of three boys – and a surprise blessing to his family – Benny grew up in Texas, where he attended school, worked, and spent much of his early life rodeoing.
In 1973, Benny made the life-changing decision to give his life to Christ. From that day forward, he lived as a faithful servant, grounded in humility, kindness, and quiet strength.
On June 3, 1977, he married the love of his life, Roxie Yellott, and they settled in DeQuincy, where they built a life together. In 1979, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Amanda, who brought immeasurable joy to Benny’s heart.
Community-minded and always ready to serve, Benny helped establish the Ward 6 Fire Department when it first went online and volunteered there for many years. He retired from CITGO in 2009 and later worked part-time with Louisiana Workforce, continuing his lifelong pattern of helping others.
A quiet and observant man, Benny spoke when spoken to and answered when asked, but rarely felt the need to voice unnecessary opinions. His actions, rather than his words, revealed his character. He was always the first to lend a hand and consistently put the needs of others before his own. Benny lived as a true servant, dedicated to his family, his faith, and his community.
For 48 years, he was a devoted and loyal husband, and for 46 years, an exceptional and loving father. Throughout his life, he embraced the simple outdoor joys – gardening, hunting, fishing, and, most of all, spending time with his family. When his two granddaughters arrived, his heart expanded even more, and everything else, including hunting, took second place.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruth Jackson; his brothers, Jack and Paul Jackson; and his mother-in-law, Bonnie Yellott.
He is survived by his wife, Roxie Jackson; his daughter, Amanda Jackson Guerrero and her husband, Mark Guerrero; and his treasured granddaughters, Stella and Luciana Guerrero. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Avery Yellott; sister-in-law, Ava Sue Yellott; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.
Benny will be remembered for his steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of service and humility will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
