Fontenot is DHS Teacher of the Year

DeQuincy High School has named Ron Fontenot, Jr. as its 2025-26 Teacher of the Year.

Fontenot has taught mathematics at DeQuincy High for fifteen years. In addition to his teaching duties, he coaches Boys and Girls Track and is an assistant Boys Basketball coach. He has also sponsored the Youth For Christ organization for eight years and sponsored the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for seven years.

When asked about why he teaches, Fontenot responded, “I feel like God gifts each of us and develops within us the passion to use those gifts to serve. I have long known that working with students is my calling and the math classroom is a great place to build relationships that help our students develop the critical thinking skills they need to be successful in life. Developing into strong math students helps build confidence and the capacity to solve complex problems, and I’m here for that.”

Prior to teaching, he served eleven years with the DeQuincy Police Department and DeQuincy Clerk of Court’s Office. He also has served as a minister to students for 30 years.

He has spent the last 36 years in the DeQuincy Tiger Press Box, with 21 years as the Voice of the Tigers.

He is a native of DeQuincy and graduated from DeQuincy High in 1989. He holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Teaching degree from McNeese State University. He is a certified ACT Coach in both ACT Basics and ACT Math and has tutored students in ACT for 15 years.

Fontenot is the son of Ronnie Sr. and Joy Fontenot and is married to the former Brandy McFatter. He and his wife are members of CrossPoint Community Church, where they volunteer in the Student Ministry.
