Dexter Thomas

Dexter Lee Thomas “The Sauce Man” was born Apr. 4, 1966, in Mamou to the late David Sr. and Mary Thomas. He departed this life at a blessed age of 59 on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025. He was baptized at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior under the late Reverend, Pastor Joshua G. Frank III of St. Paul Baptist Church in Mamou and later moved to DeQuincy and is currently under the leadership of Pastor Marvin Durgan of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church of DeQuincy.

Dexter leaves to cherish his precious memories to his loving wife, Vanessa Bushnell Thomas; his sons, Kevin, Kheasland and Donte Thomas of DeQuincy; daughters, Tamara (Darreon), Brandie, Karen Thomas of DeQuincy, Oce’Annah Thomas of Dallas, Texas and Tajah Thomas of DeRidder; bonus son, Jamal Spikes; grandchildren, Zailynn Pruitt, Zane Lee Thomas, Khalea Thomas, Kheliil Thomas, Kairo Thomas and Blair Thomas; mother, Mary Thomas; three brothers, Curtis Goodley (Shelia) of Mamou, David Thomas Jr (Jessica) and Drextler Thomas (Nickie) of Eunice; five sisters, Sara Staten (KT) of Rosenberg, Texas, Demetriss Wilkins (Barrington) of Hartford, Conn. and Dorena Thomas, Reantea White (Sam), Julia Simien (Jo) all of Mamou; brothers-in-law, Jerone Bushnell (Stacy) of Pennsylvania and Dennis Bushnell Jr of DeQuincy; sisters-in-law, Barbara Janice (Joe) of Kinder and Evelyn, Melissa and Carolyn Bushnell (Marlon) all of DeQuincy; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jhalyn Thomas; son, Dexter Thomas; father, David Thomas Sr.; brother, James LeBlanc; sister, Madria Thomas and sister-in-law, Mary Bushnell.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, 306 Booker St., DeQuincy. Interment to follow at Community Cemetery in DeQuincy. Pastor Marvin Durgan will be officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
