Carrier turned 100; two celebrations held

Mother Mary Carrier was born on Sept. 24, 1925 and turned 100 on Sept. 24, 2025.

Her 100th Birthday Celebration was held at High Hope Care Center on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. She received gifts and warm words of expressions from attendees. Her family presented her with a plaque in honor of her centennial birthday. The family also presented a plaque to Calvin Carter in recognition of his assistance and support of their mother. A proclamation by Councilwoman, Margaret Brown, was presented to the honoree on behalf of Mayor Riley Smith from the City of DeQuincy.

A second celebration was held in her honor on her birthday, Wednesday, Sept. 24, at High Hope Care Center hosted by the Mission Dept. of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.

Her children are: Helen Mitchell of Ruston, Michael Carrier of Newton, Texas, and Carla Drake of Topeka, Kan.

Preceeding her in death was her husband, Melvin Carrier, Sr; and sons, Melvin Carrier, Jr. and Charles Carrier.

Special thanks is given to Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. James Harris, Calvin Carter, Alvin Skinner, Sr. Jimmy and Liz Calhoun, and High Hope Care Center.
