At 6:14 a.m., Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One was dispatched as automatic aid to assist DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire on Sunshine Lane.
On arrival at 6:20 a.m., heavy smoke was observed with fire venting from a window on the rear of the residence. Firefighters conducted offensive fire operations and transitioned to a defensive fire attack due to a partial collapse of the roof.
Mutual aid was activated for additional apparatus and firefighters from Houston River Fire Dept., Beauregard Parish Fire District 2, Sulphur Fire Dept., and Westlake Fire Dept.
Firefighters did locate six dogs in the structure that were deceased. The homeowners were not at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to emergency response personnel.
Other agencies that responded included DeQuincy Police Dept., Acadian Ambulance, and Calcasieu Parish Animal Services.
All units cleared the incident scene at 10:55 a.m.
