Council met Monday, Aug. 11

The monthly City Council meeting was called to order by Council President Eddy Dahlquist on Monday, Aug. 11.

The July 14, 2025 regular meeting minutes and Aug. 11, 2025 amended agenda were approved by the council. Mayor Riley Smith mentioned the National Night Out to be held on Friday, Aug. 22, with several fun events planned.

Council rejected all bids for the Highway 27 Lift Station Project. Repair project will be redesigned and new bids will be taken.

A public hearing and introduction of the following Ordinances were brought before the council:

Introduce Ordinance 968B amending the FYE Sept. 30, 2025 budget;

Introduce Ordinance 997 amending the Capital Asset Policy;

Intoduce Ordinance #998 to authorize Mayor Smith to sign all documents to declare several vehicles to be surplus, sell to the hightest bidder, or authorize the city to sell for junk.; public hearing for these ordinances on Sept. 8.

Public hearing and adoption of Ordinance #996 to delcare property located on Overton St. with parcel #00816515 (DeQuincy High School Ball Fields) to become surplus property and allow it to be sold to the Calcasieu Parish School Board.

Begin the condemnation process immediately with an emergency declaration to proceed with demolition of structure located at 107 Frazier St.

Next step condemnation process given for the following properties: 404 Velmer St., 210 Jackson St., 218 Jackson St., 228 Jackson St., and 230 Jackson St.

Final step of condemation on 208 Hall St. Public hearing set for all of these ordinances on Sept. 8.
