John “Bubba” Barney was born Dec.18, 1965, and passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the age of 59.
John had a deep love for the water, whether fishing, cooking up a fresh catch, or cruising on his houseboat. Saturdays were for LSU football, and spending quality time with his family. He was a true handyman at heart, and loved fixing boats at JB Welding. John was cherished by his friends and was loved deeply by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Danetta Welch Barney; children, Marilee Brinson and husband Daniel, Karlee Parkhurst and husband Brac, Derek Welch and wife Janae; grandchildren, Elliott Kate Brinson, Mayson Brinson, Callie Welch and Averie Welch; parents, Carolyn and Kenneth Berry; siblings, Bobbie Golemon and husband Larry, Vance Barney and wife Amanda; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Barney; grandparents, Ashbel and Georgianna Barney, and John and Matilda Wright.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday May 28, at Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy.
