Marjorie Habetz

Marjorie Ann Granger “Margie” Habetz, 80, died Monday, Apr. 28, 2025 in a local care facility in Welsh.

She was born in Pine Island and attended Welsh High School.

After graduation, she married and moved to Ragley. She volunteered at school; managed the annual South Beauregard Purple and Gold Highlights Pageant; and was the Youth Group leader several years for St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley.

She a singer-songwriter in the late 1970s. With a blended style of country and Cajun music, “Little Cajun Margie” secured several record deals. A few of her songs were popular on radio stations across South Louisiana and performed on televised Telethon broadcasts at KPLC to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. She was a well-known member of the Nashville Country Music community. She shared the stage with many popular Country Music stars of that day. The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History has included one of her songs in their collection of American music.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; parents, Dedier and Eula Granger; one brother; son, Gregory Paul and two grandchildren.

She is survived by three sisters, Gertrude Hardy, Laura Hardy, both of Iowa, Elaine Fuselier of Lafayette; brother, Harold of Bell City; sons, Darren Keith of Round Rock, Texas, Chad Conrad of Houston, Texas, Stuart Kent of Moss Bluff; daughter, Jacqueline Renee Bevins of Dallas, Texas; along with six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial was held at St Raphael Catholic Church on Monday, May 5. Rev. Anthony Fontenot officiated. Interment was at Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh.
