LHSAA State Wrestling Championships were held Feb. 14-15, at the Brookshire Grocery Event Center in Bossier City.
Lawton Royer – Senior, 120 lbs. weight class
Four appearances at the State Championship placing in the Top 6 All 4 years. Entered the tournament this year as the #2 Seed.
1st match vs. Gino Signorelli from John Curtis Christian resulted in a Win by Tech Fall in the 1st period with a score of 15-0.
2nd match vs. Tristan Buller from South Beauregard resulted in a Win with a score of 7-0.
3rd match vs. Paul Schmidt from De LaSalle resulted in a Win by Tech Fall in the 2nd period with a score of 16-0 advancing him into the Finals!
Finals match vs. Kye Smith from Basile resulted with a State Runner Up Champion in the 3rd period.
Kohen Cormier – Senior, 175 lbs. weight class
First appearance at the State Championship. He had two Wins and two losses.
There were 29 Division 3 Wrestling Teams at the tournament. DeQuincy finished ranked as the #16 Team with Only two Wrestlers where most of the other teams have 14+ wrestlers.
Royer and Cormier trained with the Sulphur High School Wrestling Team. Head Coach is JeanPaul Duhon. Assistant Coaches are Burk Walker, Garry Trahan, Andrew Dwyer and Collin Hyatt.
