Sharon Hagar

Sharon “Rooney” Hagar was born June 7, 1945, and passed away Friday, Mar. 7, 2025, at the age of 79.

Rooney loved to cook, she made special navy beans for Layton and Kent and never went without a chance to fish for compliments. She was a Starks icon and lived to make people laugh. She made sure to make every niece and nephew feel like they were her favorite. Rooney enjoyed spending time outdoors: fishing, hunting, four-wheeler riding and spending time with her beloved pets. She also enjoyed spending quality time with family, playing card games and cutting up. She is loved by many, and she will be greatly missed. They broke the mold when they made her.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Hollie and husband Danny, Donna Sargent and Danna Johnson; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; siblings, Larry Gibson, David Gibson and wife Ladonna; sister-in law, Brenda Gibson; and fur baby, “Shag” along with a host of cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, James “Jim” Hagar; parents, Earl “Dick” Gibson and Mattie Gibson; siblings, CJ Gibson, Norman Gibson, Tippy Gibson, Virgil Gibson, Mable Bass, Evelyn Montgomery, Shelma Trahan, and Louise Gaskins.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., Monday, Mar. 10, and continued from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Mar. 11, at First Pentecostal Church of Starks in Starks. Rev. Karl Smith, Rev. Terry Lee, Rev. Alfred Gibson and Rev. Jeremy Shields officiated. Interment followed at Fountain Cemetery in Starks.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
