Tigers collect 11 hits in win

The DeQuincy Tigers hosted the Logansport Tigers on Friday, Feb. 28, in the Sammy Dean Yellott Memorial Tournament. This was the first time these two teams have met since the 2023 semifinal game which DeQuincy won 10-0. So Logansport came in looking for a little bit of revenge. However the home standing Tigers would prevail as the bats were hot all game long. The pitching was excellent as Carson Rainwater pitched 6 innings only giving up 1 hit and recording 13 strikeouts.

Carson Rainwater was 3-4, Nolan Schrader was 2-3, Turner Rodriguez was 1-1 with an RBI, Noah Pettifield was 3-3 with 2 RBIs, Rahley Royer was 1-4, and Grant Rainwater was 1-4 with an RBI.

DeQuincy 10, Logansport 3

Tigers fall to Iowa 11-1

The DeQuincy Tigers hosted the Iowa Yellowjackets on Saturday Mar. 1, in their final game of the Sammy Dean Yellott Memorial Tournament. It was just not the Tigers’ day as Iowa scored early and often as DeQuincy would struggle to get hits and score runs.

Andrew Dowden was 1-3, and Rahley Royer was 2-2 with an RBI.

DeQuincy breaks losing streak

The DeQuincy Tigers hosted the South Beauregard Golden Knights last Monday Mar. 3, in non district action. The Tigers’ bats were on fire as big red collected 14 hits along with excellent pitching as Turner Rodriguez had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. Prior to this game, the last time DeQuincy had beaten South Beau was back in 2011 when the Knights were in their final year of Class 2A. DeQuincy won by a score of 14-7 in Longville. Fast forward 14 years later and the Tigers finally break the losing streak despite a late 7th inning rally by South Beau. DeQuincy would hold off the Knights and win 9-6.

Carson Rainwater went 2-3 with an RBI, Diron Valentine went 2-3 with an RBI, Nolan Schrader went 3-4 with an RBI, Andrew Dowden went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, Turner Rodriguez went 2-4 with an RBI, Noah Pettifield went 1-3 with an RBI, and Rahley Royer went 1-4 with and RBI.

DeQuincy 9, South Beauregard 6

Tigers fall to Rosepine

Last Thursday the DeQuincy Tigers traveled to Rosepine to take on the Eagles. However this game did not count on the Tigers’ district record as this was tournament game.

The Tigers got on the board in the first inning but that would be all the scoring for DeQuincy as Rosepine collected 13 hits and took advantage of DeQuincy’s miscues.

DeQuincy and Rosepine will meet two more times this time in District 4-2A action Thursday Mar. 13, at 6 p.m. at home and then they will travel to Rosepine on Tuesday Apr. 1, at 6 p.m.

Andrew Dowden went 1-4, and Turner Rodriguez went 1-2.

Tigers hold off Leesville

On Friday, Mar. 7, the DeQuincy Tigers traveled to Westlake to play the Leesville Wampus Cats in the Rosepine tournament which was moved to Westlake due to the threat of rain. The Tigers and Wampus Cats played a tight game but it was the Tigers who would come out victorious!

Carson Rainwater went 1-2, Nolan Schrader went 1-2 with an RBI, Andrew Dowden went 1-3, and Turner Rodriguez went 1-2 with an RBI.

Carson Rainwater pitched 6 innings and recorded 6 strikeouts.

DeQuincy 5, Leesville 3

Tigers come up short

On Saturday Mar. 8, the DeQuincy to traveled to Westlake to take on the Rams in the Rosepine tournament which was moved to Westlake due to the rain. Westlake took an early 2-0 lead and then score 3 more in the 3rd in which two of those came from errors. However the Tigers would make a nice comeback in the fourth inning scoring 4 runs and then 1 in the 5th to tie the game 5-5. The Rams would add two more runs in the 6th and the Tigers never had an answer as Westlake beats DeQuincy for the second time this season.

Carson Rainwater was 1-4, Nolan Schrader was 2-3, Andrew Dowden was 1-3 with an RBI, Turner Rodriguez was 1-2 with 3 RBIs, and Hayz Hext was 1-3.

Turner Rodriguez was great on the mound recording 8 strikeouts.
