Billy Eaves

Billy Howard Eaves, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025. He was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Creston to Katie Weaver Eaves and Archie Tee Eaves. Upon graduating in 1955 from Goldonna High School, Billy enrolled in Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1959, and later in 1985 he received a Master of Education degree from McNeese State University.

Mr. Eaves taught Jr. High math and science for twenty years for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. Once he retired, he continued teaching math at Louisiana Correctional and Industrial School, also known as L.C.I.S. He was an active member of DeQuincy First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and participated in various committees.

He enjoyed working in his garden, listening to bluegrass music, and “piddling” outside just to stay busy (which included resting in his chair for a while.)

He is survived by his children, William Scott Eaves and wife Denise of DeQuincy, Melanie Streams and husband Scott of DeQuincy, Timothy Paul Eaves and wife Kimberly of Longville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and threegreat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Annie Laura Eaves; son, Stacey Eaves; parents, Archie Tee Eaves and Katie Weaver Eaves; sister, Amy Lawless; and his grandson-in-law, Cody Bowman.

The family would like to thank West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, DeQuincy Rehab, High Hope Care Center, and Heart of Hospice for all of the excellent care provided.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, with the funeral service being held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 17, at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Pastor David Earnest and Rev. Gil Arthur officiated. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
