Cynthia Treme

Cynthia “Cindy” Treme was born in New Orleans on July 11, 1965, and passed away into the loving arms of her Savior Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024 at the age of 59. Shortly after birth she was brought home to DeQuincy by her loving parents, Williard “Chief” Treme and Louise Henagan Treme.

There she was raised, attending school and church regularly, where she excelled in her talent and love of music. She sang in the chorus at DeQuincy High School and played in the band, with them winning several awards.

After graduating she went into the family business, Treme Auto Parts, working alongside her Mother in the business office. She then pursued her love of music and God by singing and playing her bass, ‘Baby’ with her brother’s gospel group, The Relations. Traveling through many states for years, Cindy’s talents grew, and she felt at home on the stage. Health issues took her off the road where she then fulfilled her other love and compassion for dogs, her ‘fur babies’, starting her own dog sitting business. None of these compared to her love of family and God!

Cindy was preceded in death by her loving parents; maternal grandparents, Herman and Bessie Henagan; paternal grandparents, Jack and Elda Treme; and her nephew, Dallas.

Those left to lovingly cherish her memory are her brothers, Herman “Butch” Treme and wife Sandy, Rod Treme and wife Dianne; nieces, Terri, Tonya, Courtney, Sarah and Dawn; nephew, Brian; a host of many great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and friends. A special cousin that was faithful to their family ties and meant so much to Cindy, John Shoemake.

We want to thank the faithful and loving staff of Grand Cove for caring for and loving Cindy while she was there. She loved the staff there like family, and it was reciprocated by all that met her and her contagious laughter and joking personality.

The family received friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Interment to follow at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
