Ellory Burgess was born May 26, 1941, and passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at the age of 83.
Ellory was a lifelong resident of Longville. He was a logger for majority of his life and was a bus driver for 35+ years. He enjoyed being on the dozer and was an avid sportsman. Ellory loved being with his family, storytelling, and making memories that will last forever. He loved his family more than anything and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Gertie Tupper Burgess; children, Melissa Burgess Whittington and husband Bud, John Burgess and wife Missy, Sharon “Peanut” Burgess, Kendall Furr and girlfriend Amelia, Barbara Burgess, Jimmie Tupper and wife Faith, and Sharon Fontenot; grandchildren, Katie Burgess, Samantha Remedies and husband Cody, Josh Stracener, Joseph Stracener and wife Tabitha, Dustin Stracener and wife Ashlee, Heather Whittington, Heath Whittington and wife Jillian, Brandon Burgess and wife Sarah, Brianna Burgess, Bethany Burgess, Dakota Furr, and Summer Burgess; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and honorary sons, Cliff Burgess, Jason Perkins, Vance Perkins, Cody Burgess, and Brody Barrow.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Vernell Slaydon Burgess; son, Butch Burgess; daughter-in-law, Angie Burgess; grandson, Cody Goode; parents, John and Maggie Burgess; along with seven siblings.
Family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, with the funeral service being held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at Longville Pentecostal Church in Longville. Interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
