Robert Barnes

Robert Turner “R.T.” Barnes was born on Feb. 24, 1939, and passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at the age of 85.

“R.T.” was a family man. He was a loving husband, father, and a compassionate grandfather. At family gatherings you could count on him getting the dominoes out for everyone to play. He was very close to his brothers and loved his yorkie, Snuffy. “R.T.” was old fashioned, strong willed, and very plain spoken. He told it like it was. He was a man of his word with a great work ethic. “R.T.” worked until the day of his passing. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a master gardener, a master of knowledge, and he had a love for reading. His favorite author was Louis L’Amour. Whatever he touched he could find a way to fix it. “R.T.” is going to be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jacqueline Barks Barnes; children, Randy Barnes and wife, Rochelle, Shawn Barnes and wife, Patti, Sharon Gibson and husband, Lynell, Todd Barks and wife, Denise, and Patrick Barks and wife, Georgann; grandchildren, Robert Barnes and wife, Lacy, Leslie Grantham and husband, Bobby, Ryan Barnes and partner, James, Tyler Barks and fiancé, Tamara, Abigale Barks and fiancé, Alec, Cutter Barks, Hannah Bajade, and Dexter Gibson and wife, Ashley; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil Barnes and wife, Naomi, Raymond Barnes and wife, Dorothy, and Earnest Barnes and wife, Sue.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, William and Olga Barnes; grandson, Jacob Barks; and sister, Florencestine Barnes.

The family received friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, at Calvary Apostolic Church, 4270 LA-12, Starks. Visitation continued on Friday, Aug.16, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m., at Calvary Apostolic Church, 4270 LA-12, Starks. Pastor Jeremy Shields and Bro. Devin Doyle officiated. Interment followed at Barnes-Barks Family Cemetery, 4836 Lou Farley Road, Starks.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
