Joy Young

Joy Taylor Young was born Oct. 3, 1935, and passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the age of 88.

Joy Taylor Young was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who at 88 years young decided to move on to meet her Lord, Jesus Christ. Joy supported her husband Bill for many years who was a Professor of Horticulture at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She and Bill enjoyed many retirement years at their place on Toledo Bend while residing in DeQuincy. Her passions were cooking, gardening, and fishing. She also read the Morning Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge from cover to cover every morning. An avid reader and gardener, she won Yard of the Month several times in her neighborhood.

Her grandchildren loved her fried chicken, and she always had a cake or pie to eat on the counter. She played basketball for Hyatt High School in her younger years and often won the halftime free-throw contest. She was loved by many and will be missed greatly.

She is survived by her children, Randy Young and wife Kristin, and Jeff Young and wife Marilyn; grandchildren, Aaron Young and wife Kate, Adam Young, Benjamin Young and wife Victoria, Ryan Young, and Britny Banks and husband Colby; six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Charlie Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Young; grandson, Jason Young; parents, Thomas and Ruby Taylor; brother, Thomas Taylor Jr.; and sister, Norma Henagan.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Interment to follow at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
