John William Leong, 63, was born June 22, 1960 in Houston, Texas and passed away Tuesday, Mar. 12, 2024 in DeQuincy.
John attended Montgomery High School, he retired after twenty-three years with Fedex as a long distance trucker and continued to work in the industry until October 2023. He loved the outdoors, hunting and his passion was fishing. He was a very giving person and always willing to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his children, Jessica M. Leong, Christina “Nina” Leong, Evelyn “Ebby” Leong; grandchildren, Dustin, Johnathan, Danika and Charliegh; brothers and sister, Timmy Leong, Annette McWhorter and husband, David, Riley Smith and wife, Rebecca; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and JD Smith, and John O. Leong; and brother, Jimmy Leong.
Pallbearers, Roger “Bubba” Mathis, David McWhorter, Cameron Smith, Landon Smith, Garrett Hudson, Weston Martin and Loyal Baker.
The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. with the funeral service following at 3 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 16, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Carlton Jackson, Jr. officiated. Interment followed at Riley Smith Memorial Park in DeQuincy.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
