Wanda Cooley

Wanda Mae Burnett Cooley, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at her home. She was a resident of Singer and was born in Bel.

She retired from the Beauregard Parish School Board after 33 years as a bus driver at Singer High School. She was a member of Beehive Congregational Methodist Church in Singer where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She later attended church at Christway Church. She also worked at Fort Polk as role player with her husband for twelve years.

She is survived by her husband, Arvel D. Cooley of Singer; three children, Eugene and Connie Cooley of Lafayette, Pat and Pete Mitchell of Singer, Pam and Rich Martino of Singer; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Hall of Nikiskia, Alaska, and Irene Gross of Longville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Rachel Burnett; and two sisters.

A Celebration service was held Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Rev. Kennis Smith officiated. Burial followed in the Newlin Cemetery in Singer.
