Allen Gideons

Allen Kendall Gideons, 92 of Alvin, Texas passed away Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2022 at his home.

Kendall was born Dec. 21, 1929 in DeQuincy to parents Patrick Columbus and Ruth Mahathy Gideons. He grew up in DeQuincy and graduated from DeQuincy High School, where he was on the 1947 and 1948 basketball teams which went to state both years. His teammates became his lifelong friends. Even though his team lost both years, he received a full ride basketball scholarship to Southwestern Louisiana, now named University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Kendall worked for several oil and gas companies in his career. In 1966, Phillips 66 Petroleum transferred him to Alvin, Texas where he lived the rest of his life. He was a longtime member of Alvin First Baptist Church and in recent years attended Bayou Drive Baptist Church in Alvin. He was interested in horticulture and loved to garden. He learned how to graft pecan trees and won numerous competitions for his award winning pecans at the state level.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Pauline Chapman Gideons; parents; brothers, Lloyd, Howard, and Wallace Gideons; sister, Hazel Gideons; and daughter-in-law, Cheri Verdine Gideons.
Kendall is survived by his daughter, Virginia Ruth Gideons Keown and husband, Marvin of Athens, Texas; sons, Patrick Kendall Gideons of Alvin and John Sherman Gideons of Washington, DC; sister, Patsy Gideons Andrews of Arlington; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Mar. 8, with Funeral Services beginning at 11 a.m. at Bayou Drive Baptist Church,612 East Dumble, Alvin, Texas Interment followed at Oak Park Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
