Danny “Pops” Cox, Sr., a lifelong resident of DeQuincy was born on Dec. 28, 1952 and passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at the age of 68.
Danny graduated in 1970 from DeQuincy High School and Louisiana State University in 1973 where he received a degree in electrical engineering. One of Danny’s favorite memories from attending LSU was living in the dorms in Tiger Stadium. He was an avid supporter of the LSU Tigers. Danny was owner and operator of Cox’s Electrical Contracting & Engineering for over thirty-five years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy L. Cox; children, Peyton Freeman and wife, Alexandra, Rebecca Freeman, Allison Van Winkle and husband, Nick and Daniel Cox, Jr. and fiance’ DeLaine Allen; seven grandchildren, Kate, Bruce, Lilly, Baylor, Ian, Presley and Logan. He is also survived by his brother, Adrian D. Cox, Jr. and wife, Belinda; nephew, Michael Cox and wife, Sarah and his great nephews and niece, Eli, Isaac and Johanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian D. Cox, Sr. and Margaret Laverne LeBlanc Cox; and nephew Christopher Cox.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, and from 12 p.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10. The visitation and funeral were held at First Baptist Church, 201 S. Pine St., DeQuincy. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
