John Anderson, Jr.

John Wesley Anderson, Jr., 77, of Sulphur died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021 in a local hospital.

Born in Wichita, Kan., he moved to Louisiana at the age of nine. He graduated from New Iberia High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a combat veteran during the Vietnam War. He then moved to the Lake Charles area and has lived in Sulphur for over 30 years. He worked as a self-employed flooring contractor for many years and as a security officer for 29 years at Himont, retiring in 2005. He was a member of Westlake United Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his sons, Ricky Burgess and wife Katy of Ragley and John W. Anderson, III and wife Tammy of Moss Bluff; daughters, Tammy Thompson and husband Gary of Ragley and Elly Benoit of Sulphur; sisters, Judy Lee Miller of Moss Bluff and Gail Cormie of Chloe; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Bushnell Anderson; parents, Nita and John Anderson, Sr.; one brother; and three grandsons, Cory Burgess, Gary Thompson, Jr., and Blake Anderson.

His funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Reverend Terry Bushnell officiated. Burial followed in Westlake Memorial Cemetery.
