The Starks Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4759 was instituted April, 1977 by residents of Starks who had served in foreign wars and conflicts. They joined the National organization in Kansas City, Missouri and became Comrades with thousands of other men and women who, just like them, wanted to band together to fight for Veteran’s benefits, entitlements and insure a better life for Veterans and their families. The Ladies Auxiliary was instituted two months later to help and support the VFW in their National programs and activities for the community.

Donations are put back into the community as funeral aid (food, flowers, cemetery upkeep), Veteran’s Cemetery, VFW Children’s Home, Starks High School, McNeese, Lamar, NSU, LSU, scholarships, food baskets, hospitals, pharmacies, St. Jude’s, Cystic Fibrosis, Operation Uplink, Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, Angelo’s, biomedical research, flags, DeQuincy Shriners, Veterans’ Home, Ward 5 Recreation District, hunter safety and Ronald McDonald House.

Starks Memorial VFW and Ladies Auxiliary put $22,084.81 into the community.

Starks Memorial VFW Post 4759 and the Ladies Auxiliary encourage all to volunteer any time they can to help make life a little easier for someone else and to show your patriotism by displaying the American flag at your homes and businesses.
