Starks Garden Club

Members of the Starks Garden Club

The Starks Garden Club has begun its second year of beautifying the Starks community.

Officers elected were: Clovie Holmes, President; Jackie Barnes, Vice-President; Evon Minzenmayer, Secretary; Alice Linscomb, Treasurer; Evelyn White, Reporter; and Marie Walker, Historian.

The Garden Club members enjoyed a great first year. They had a gospel singing, started a butterfly garden, planted crepe myrtles in Starks, visited gardens at the Houmas House and Nottoway, had Robert Turley and Dale Dardeau as guest speakers, had a demonstration on planting given by Dolly Frugé, and visited in homes in the area.

The club is planning a cookbook fundraiser and would like for the residents of the Starks community to participate in this cookbook by providing recipes and tidbits about Starks. Recipes should be turned in by Sept 12, to any garden club member or mail them to 4772 Wilbert Buxton Rd, Starks, LA 70661.
