Hugh “Huey” Alton James, 50, a native of Orange, Tex. and a resident of Starks, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010. He was a Baptist by faith.

Huey was born on July 16, 1959 to his loving parents, Charles "Stoop" James and Dorothy Faye James. He passed from this life doing what he loved, being outdoors and floating down the Sabine River. Huey had a passion for reading books and found contentment and peace staying close to nature. He spent a good bit of time helping those to whom he was close.

He is survived by his beloved, Tanya Welch of Starks; two sisters, Vicki Lynn Kroger of Dequincy; and Liz Castresana of Georgia; one brother, Bruce James and wife, Bonnie of Starks; two stepdaughters, Summer Moosman and Autumn Welch; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday, July 16, and from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, July 17, at Christensen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Christensen Funeral Home at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 17, with the Rev. Jerry Crise officiating. Interment will be at Masonic Cemetery in Dequincy.

James Elton Kimball, 91, a native and resident of Dequincy, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at his residence in Dequincy. He was a member of the Church Of Christ for over 50 years. James served in the Army Air Force in WWII as a radio operator and courier and made many flights over the "hump" in the Burma India Theater.

He served as a machinist apprentice at the Dequincy railroad shops. He also worked at Dupont, Cities Service and retired from CitCon where he served as a Craft Supervisor in the machinist department.

He was a member of the Dequincy Volunteer Fire Department for over 32 years serving as Secretary Treasurer for 25 years and Fire Chief for 5 years. James was also a member of Masonic Lodge #279.

He was the son of the late Thomas Wyzeman Kimball and the late Nora Kimball.

He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Beatrice Kimball of Dequincy; three daughters, Judith Ann Nelson and husband, Alton and Carol Lynn Kimball, all of Houston, Tex., and Nora B. Young and husband, Ron of New Windsor, N.Y.; one son, James Thomas Kimball and wife, Laura Beth of Dequincy; six grandchildren, Allan Nelson, Patrick Nelson, Kaitlyn Kimball, Kaci Kimball, Kiley Kimball and Travis Young.

The Family Circle of Thomas Wyzeman and Nora Kimball has been completed: John, Annie, Audrey and twin brothers George and James.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Hoover.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 11, and from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, July 12, at Christensen Funeral Home. Visitation resumed from 1-3 p.m. Monday, July 12, at the Dequincy Church of Christ. Funeral services were held at the Church Of Christ at 3 p.m. Monday, July 12, Bro. Ray Hyatt and Bro. Mike Lerro officiated. Interment was in Rigmaiden Cemetery in Dequincy.

James Calvin Palmer, 61, died Monday, July 12, 2010 in DeQuincy Memorial Hospital. He was born in Kinder and lived in Vinton. He worked as a supervisor in the construction industry. He was a member of Northway Baptist Church in Orange, Tex., and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Alston Palmer of Vinton; three daughters, Angela Trahan and Cynthia Palmer, both of Sulphur, and Amy Palmer of Vinton; one brother, Bobby Palmer of DeQuincy; sister, Dewana Simon of Starks; six grandsons; and one granddaughter.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in the Hixson-Snider Funeral Home. Visitation was held Tuesday, July 13 from 5-9 p.m. at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home and will resume on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Alston Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home.

Regina Bonvillain, 74, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, in her residence.

Mrs. Bonvillain was born in Fulton and resided in Ragley. She received her nursing degree from McNeese and worked as a licensed LPN for area hospitals. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gillis and a member of the Eastern Star Magnolia Lodge.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Bonvillain of Ragley; sons, Matt Bonvillain, Robert Bonvillain, both of Ragley, and Lance Bonvillain of Bryant, Ark.; daughters, Addie Myers of Lafayette and Connie Fontenot of Moss Bluff; brother, J. M. Gimnick of Ragley; sisters, Addie Arrington of Ragley, Sylvia Welsh of DeRidder and Linda Berry of Ragley; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her funeral was held Saturday, July 10, with an Eastern Star service, at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. The Rev. Johnny Johnson officiated. Burial was in Hagar Cemetery.

Julia Dorothy Doherty, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at 9:20 a.m. in her home. She was born May 23, 1923. A Memorial service is scheduled for Monday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at DeQuincy United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to The Heart and Cancer Fund or the Methodist Children’s Home of Southwest Louisiana.

Survivors include Jane Doherty of DeQuincy, Sue Doherty Anderson and husband, Richard, of Sulphur, Jackie Lee Pool and wife, Debbie, of Merryville and Herman Pool of Sulphur, 11 grandchildren, 27 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Manuel Glenn Fontenot, 51, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010. He was born in Lake Charles.

He is survived by his parents, Manuel and Joanna Tezeno Fontenot of Lake Charles; four daughters, Kizzy Fontenot and Emanuella Watson, both of DeQuincy, and Alexis and Alexa, both of Westlake; four sisters, Shelvin Ann Mouton and Linda Faye Fontenot, both of Lake Charles, Mary Fontenot Anderson of Leesville, and Barbara Ann Johnson of Ville Platte; and one brother, Bobby Doucet of Ville Platte.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Fontenot; and son, Manuel Fontenot.

His funeral was held Saturday, July 10, in Mount Olive Baptist Church. Pastor Berkman Adams officiated. Burial was in Combre Memorial Park.
